Trippier: Looking forward to facing Manchester City at home and hoping to win

Football

Hupu, November 19th: Newcastle player Trippier attended the club’s charity fund dinner event. He talked about the recent situation between himself and the club in an interview with Sky Sports.

I know you will be disappointed with the result of the last game, but I believe you can’t wait to return to the game this weekend, right?

Of course, as I said before, this international match day comes at the right time. We regrouped and worked extra hard this week in training, so as you said, we're ready for the next game.

Playing against Manchester City is never easy, but do you feel that Newcastle sometimes perform at their best when facing strong teams?

It is actually not appropriate to say this, because every game in the Premier League is very difficult. But we've got Manchester City coming up at St James' Park and it's going to be a good showdown and hopefully we can get all three points.

Playing against them has always been a close game?

Indeed. The previous encounters at St James' Park have been very intense and hopefully we can win this Saturday.

One of my fondest memories of Newcastle vs. Manchester City is when you hit a free kick that went straight into the corner - if you get a free kick in a dangerous area this weekend, do you want to do it again?

I haven't had such an opportunity for a long time, but I had mixed feelings about that game. It's a pity that we couldn't get three points that day.

In addition, your head coach Eddie Howe will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame tonight. How do you evaluate his work at the club?

This is completely deserved. I've known the manager for many years and what he's done for this club and this city is amazing. When I first came, the team was still in the relegation zone. Now we have reached the Champions League and won trophies. He deserves all the honors. I have always thought so. The changes he has brought to the team and the entire city are truly extraordinary.

You are the first player signed after the team was acquired. Since you came here, the team has undergone tremendous changes. What is the biggest difference from the day you joined to now?

To be honest, it feels a bit incredible. When I arrived the team was struggling and they lost to Cambridge United, and now we're winning trophies and reaching the Champions League. It's been such a quick turnaround that I didn't expect it at all. But if you look at the current lineup in the locker room and the head coach's training on and off the court, it can only be said that everything is developing too quickly.
