Ricken: Adeyemi will not be released; buying Gilasi for 18 million is more suitable for Dortmund than signing Kane

Hupu, October 15th: Borussia Dortmund Sports Managing Director Lars Riken accepted an exclusive interview with Sports Bild.

Which striker do you think is better: Gilasi or Bayern's Kane?

Kane is more than just an outstanding player. Same thing with Selhou. And: Signing last season’s Champions League top scorer for a relatively low price (€18 million; editor’s note) would suit Dortmund better than signing a player like Harry Kane. This is our DNA.

For weeks, there have been constant rumors about Nico Schlotterback's contract extension. Is there a salary issue, or is it most important that he stays?

He has every right to plan his future carefully. We respect his wishes. I think it's not about the salary, it's about the outlook, trust and belief. We will not rush into anything. Of course, we don't want to delay this indefinitely; everyone knows that.

Adeyemi's contract will also expire in 2027. Do you think it's possible for us to renew his contract?

Many people currently believe that Karim's performance in Dortmund is better than ever. Not only does he define himself through goals and assists, but he also contributes to the team. His progress has been remarkable. Now, staying injury-free is just as important.

Nico was the right coach for him, and he reiterated all this. One thing is clear: we want to work with Karim for the long term; we are working towards it.

If Adeyemi is offered, do you think the 60 million euros Chelsea gives Gittens is enough?

We don't want him to leave. So: No, it’s not enough.

Your former lineup planner Sven Mislintat also took a dig at you in a recent interview, saying that the responsibilities were not allocated properly. Do you agree with him?

Sven is a good guy; I like his challenging character. His professionalism is unquestionable. But we have to admit: in that case, our plan wouldn't work. And my job is to make tough decisions. We laid off several employees at that time.

Without these decisions, I highly doubt we would have qualified for the Champions League. Sven will continue to be part of Dortmund's history; I now have to focus on the present and the future.

Bild recently reported on an abuse scandal in Dortmund. A former employee is facing serious charges. Are you shocked by these accusations?

These accusations caused a huge shock to the entire club. We want to provide the best possible support to all those allegedly affected and have taken action accordingly, commissioning an external audit firm to investigate all information and incidents.

A reporting system has also been set up on the Dortmund website for all persons suspected of being affected. We condemn any form of sexual assault; such behavior has no place in Dortmund or in society. The club will fully support the investigation and provide all available resources, documents and channels.
