Laid off and re-employed, Carrick will serve as Champions League commentator

Three months after being dismissed from Middlesbrough, Carrick found a new job and will serve as a commentator for the Champions League this season.

This is a new turning point in Carrick's career. The former Manchester United midfielder will join Prime Video's analyst team and explain the Champions League match between Tottenham Hotspur in the early morning of September 17. In October 2022, Carrick began coaching Mibao and achieved good results in the early stages. The team climbed from 22nd place in the Championship to 3rd place in the 22nd season, but lost in the upgrade play-offs. Fans hope that Carrick can lead the team back to the Premier League, but the team missed the top 6 in the next two seasons. He was fired in June 2025 after the team suffered a series of unstable performances.

Carrick played for Manchester United for 12 years, winning five Premier League and three League Cup titles, and won the Champions League title in 2008. Carrick said he learned a lot of tactical ideas from coaches such as Guardiola, Arteta and Nagelsman.
