According to multiple media reports, Manchester United is approaching a transfer fee of about £17.3 million to sign 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lamons from Belgium Real Antwerp.

According to Sky Sports, negotiations between the clubs of both sides are progressing smoothly. The signing is seen as part of Manchester United's long-term team building plan and is not an immediate replacement of main goalkeeper Andre Onana, but rather aims to inject stronger competition into Old Trafford's goalkeeper position.

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorin has previously publicly expressed his satisfaction with the existing goalkeeper configuration. As of now, the club has not received any offer for Onana or substitute goalkeeper Altai Baindel. The introduction of Lamons is precisely to enhance the healthy competition for the first-team goalkeeper position.

Lamens is 1.93 meters tall and joined Real Antwerp from Bruges two years ago. If the transfer becomes a success, Antwerp will receive nearly 100% of the transfer profit.

Last season, Lamens made 44 appearances in various competitions and completed 10 clean sheets, helping the team rank fifth in the League One. So far in the new season, he has started and played all 4 games, achieving a record of 1 win and 3 draws, conceding only 1 goal in each game, and is in a stable state.

Lamens is currently signed with Antwerp until June 2027, and he has just renewed his contract with the club for four years in 2023.

The young goalkeeper impressed with his outstanding underfoot skills, agile reaction and the comprehensive style of the modern goalkeeper. Data shows that he averaged 24 passes per game in the League One, and had nearly 7 accurate long passes to launch attacks, with excellent ability to move from defense to offense.

Once this transaction is completed, it will provide important guarantees for Manchester United's future goalkeeper rotation and long-term development.
