The Clippers first choice for signing Brogden! Two major traits meet the needs. Simmons is expected to leave the team this summer

On May 9, the Clippers recorded Law Murray discussing the team's offseason trends on a podcast program. He said Brogdon is worth paying attention, and he also believes that Ben Simmons is not expected to stay in the Clippers.

Brogden played for the Wizards in the 2024-25 season, with an annual salary of $22.5 million, and he will become a full free agent this summer. "I think Brogdon will be the Clippers' first choice signing target," Murray said. "...they almost completed the deal (about him). I think if Brogdon was bought out after the February trade deadline, the Clippers would definitely consider signing him like they would consider Ben Simmons."

Murray also pointed out that Brogdon had a deep relationship with former Clippers executive Michael Wenger, who now headed the Wizards' management.

"At least, the Clippers will consider him seriously," Murray said. "As a point guard, he has all the qualities the Clippers want: be able to shoot, and have no loss in physical fitness. These conditions are fully in line with the Clippers' signing needs." Brogden, in his healthy state, performed extremely well in the NBA. He has won the 2017 Rookie of the Year and the 2023 Sixth Person of the Year. He played 463 games in his career (29.1 minutes per game), averaging 15.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, shooting percentage of 46.3%, three-point shooting percentage of 38.8%, and free throw shooting percentage of 87.4%.

However, injuries have been a big problem that has plagued Brogden. He only played 24 games for the Wizards this season, with less than 40 appearances in three of the past four seasons, which could affect his market value this summer. In the 2024-25 season, Brogden's performance on the court was not as good as before. His average playing time dropped to a career-low 23.5 minutes, with a three-point shooting percentage as low as 28.6%, setting a career-worst record. However, due to the small sample size and the Wizards' record at the bottom of the league, these data do not fully reflect his true level.

Even so, Brogdon is still a potential recruiting target worth considering for the Clippers. As Murray said, the 32-year-old guard is competent in two guard positions, has an advantage in height, and has a very good shooting performance when gaining shooting space.

Murray also pointed out that he is unlikely to return to the Clippers unless Ben Simmons renews his contract with a "very low salary." "He is now a free agent and has gradually fallen out of the Clippers' rotation last season. I don't think he will return unless he accepts a very low salary... What the team needs are players who have threats on both sides of the offense and defense."
