June 21 ESPN reporter McMahon was a guest on the NBA Today Show, discussing Flag's trip to Dallas, and revealing that Kidd compared him with Grant Hill.

McMahon said: "As far as I know, Kidd saw another Duke player in Flag, that is Grant Hill, who once shared the Best Rookie Award with Kidd. Especially during the absence of Irving at the beginning of the season, Flag will get a lot of opportunities to play the ball-handling forward. He will have a lot of time to hold the ball, and Kidd believes that he has the ability to organize offense."

Grant Hill was elected the Best Rookie in 1995 and was selected for the Best Rookie Team, and was selected for the All-Stars 7 times in his career, 1 time to the Best Team One Team, and 4 times to the Second Team. On June 2, 2013, Grant Hill officially announced his retirement. In 2018, Hill was selected for the Nai Smith Basketball Celebrity Memorial.

Grant Hill played in a total of 1,026 regular season games in his NBA career, averaging 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
