Class of 2026 five-star small forward Anthony Thompson announces his commitment to NCAA Ohio State

Class of 2026 five-star small forward Anthony Thompson has announced his commitment to Ohio State, becoming the highest-ranked player the Buckeyes have received in more than a decade.

Thompson chose Ohio State over Indiana, allowing head coach Jake Diebler to beat out Big Ten opponents in his recruitment, plus visits to Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Michigan.

‍ Thompson is 6-8 (2.03 meters) tall and has a wingspan of 7-2. When he enters high school in 2022, he is only 5-11 (1.80 meters) tall. He is a versatile left-handed forward. He studied at the Western Reserve Academy in Ohio during his senior season and ranked 13th on the 2026 ESPN official website list. He signed a contract with the Adidas brand this summer. ‍

Thompson became the first five-star high school student Ohio State received since D'Angelo Russell in the 2014 class, who was also ranked 13th that year. Thompson is the third recruit the team has received in the 2026 class, following four-star point guard Marcus Johnson (No. 28) and four-star forward Alex Smith, all three players from Ohio State.
