Lakers negotiate for Hachimura for Collins! Famous talker evaluates the value of Reeves deal: three and a half rounds?

On June 20, Lakers reporter Anthony Irwin reported that according to sources close to the Lakers, the Lakers have long admired John Collins, who can not only open up space as an outside threat, but also complete a high-quality end over the basket. Many people in the Lakers' management believe that Collins and Doncic's partner would be particularly suitable. The Lakers have negotiated several times with the Jazz since the end of the season, trying to get the 27-year-old big man, and Hachimura is the core bargaining chip for the Lakers' offer. The Jazz Records also reported this incident before. If the Lakers include one of their expiring contracts (Vincent or Kleber) in the deal, the salary matching will be almost perfect, and even the salary given by the Lakers will exceed the amount of recovery, thus avoiding the hard hat of the first rich line. There is no substantial progress in this matter at present, because the Lakers will still focus on trading to get the starting center.

The Lakers also continue to maintain interest in Walker Kessler, and this attention may continue. So there are speculations in the league whether there will be a larger deal involving Collins and Kessler.

The problem is that the Lakers lack draft capital, and sources say the Jazz's asking Kessler is still very expensive. For the Jazz and the Lakers, the swap between Collins and Hachimura may be just a "parallel deal" because the two are too similar in style: they are both mainly defensive power forwards and tall wings that can open up space. Hachimura's base is smaller, so it moves more flexible on the periphery, while Collins's size makes him more stable in rebounding. Collins' ability as a vertical threat makes him more popular among the Lakers management.

But this does not mean that Hachimura lacks supporters within the Lakers. He has improved every season on the team and is one of the few players who have really fought all the way to the top in Game 5 against the Timberwolves. He has been willing to fight for his position without any complaints many times. The Lakers really value the value he brings. Those who prefer Collins believe that he can make the team more optimized.

Compared with Hachimura, the Lakers are more reluctant to trade Reeves. Previous reports said that the Lakers would not send Reeves away unless they could get a star-level starting center. So, how much transaction value does Reeves have?

After Bain was traded to the Magic, sports analyst Nick Wright had discussed how the trade could reset the trading market for players such as Lakers defender Reeves.

"If Bain is worth four first-round picks," Wright said, "then is the real way for the Lakers to get centers a three-party deal? For example, the Jazz don't want Reeves because they don't want to compete yet...but you can trade Reeves to a team that wants him and has a lot of draft picks, and then send those draft picks to the Jazz and let Walker Kessler join the Lakers."

Wright went on to propose a framework that Reeves is worth slightly less than Bain, but higher than many other non-All-star contributors.

"If Bain is worth four first-round picks, is there Fuse worth three and a half-round picks?" Wright asked. "If Mikal Bridges can exchange five first-round picks and Bain exchanges four first-round picks, the trading price of players between the top 25-50 in the league will be set."

This season, Bain averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. Reeves averaged 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game, Hachimura averaged 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, and Collins averaged 19 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
