Italian pitcher officially announced retirement, ending 23 years of career

On August 19, 2025, Italian Shinichi Marco Belinelli officially announced his retirement, ending his 23-year career.

Previously, Belinelli hinted that he would retire after helping Bologna win the Serie A championship. Today he officially posted a document, officially announcing his end of his career.

Berlinelli's career began with the Bologna Club. He started playing for Bologna in 2002 and won the Serie A championship with the team in 2005.

In 2007, Belinelli was selected by the Warriors at the 18th pick in the first round, and played for the Warriors, Raptors, Hornets (now Pelicans), Bulls, Spurs, Kings, Hornets, Hawks, and 76ers in his career. In 2018, Belinelli returned to the Spurs and then left the NBA in 2020.

Berlinelli played in a total of 860 regular season games in his NBA career, averaging 9.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, shooting percentage of 42.4%, three-point shooting percentage of 37.6%, and free throw shooting percentage of 84.6%. In 2014, Belinelli helped the Spurs win the NBA championship, becoming the first Italian player to win the NBA championship.
