Interesting, former Knicks player interprets the rationality of firing Tom Thibodeau
Channing Fry believes that the New York Knicks have many reasons to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau.
New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau watched the team's second round of the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs held at TD Garden Arena, against the Boston Celtics.
Despite the controversial decision, there are many people who are outspoken in support of the decision, including former Knicks marksman Channing Fry, who recently shared his opinion on the Road Trippin ' Podcast podcast.
"While there are some details, I do think Tom Thibodeau is a very good team culture-building coach," Fry said. “I saw people on Twitter saying he was poor in coaching, whatever his style, he listed a bunch of things KAT and Jalen Brunson tried to do, saying they obviously haven’t trained or lacked enough discipline to do these things.”
Fry also mentioned some weird roster decisions that Thibodeau made in the series against the Indiana Pacers.
"You can't ask a guy to just improve something in the Eastern Conference Finals," Fry said. “You can’t just say, ‘Hey, I’m going to get five guys on the court. Hey, the Eastern Conference Finals let me go to the garage and dust it, Deron Wright played only 14 minutes the whole season.’ As a coach, he has a lot to improve.”
Tom Thibodeau is widely regarded as one of the NBA’s best coaches at raising the lower limits, but for years there have been concerns whether he can limit the upper limits of the team as well.
The Knicks lack creativity on the offensive end this season, and the team was unable to complete defense at critical moments when they were against the Pacers, which may be a fatal injury for Thibodeau to coach New York City.
Nevertheless, Knicks fans will undoubtedly miss him affectionately as he helped the team go from laughing stock to championship contender.
