Celtics Rumors: Boston s Real Feelings on Derek White s Offseason Trading Negotiations

Basketball

Amid the massive trade rumors surrounding the defender, here are the Celtics’ true feelings about Derek White.

As the Boston Celtics continue to rumour about possible deals, one name has been mentioned many times, and that is star Derek White. While teams like the Golden State Warriors are also associated with the Celtics defender, ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel dissects how the team really feels about White.

In Siegel's latest report on Boston, he details many of the players on the team and their status, such as Ju Holiday, Christapus Porzingis, and especially White. The 30-year-old will undoubtedly attract the attention of many teams with his outstanding offense and defense and his ability to perform well in key games like he did with the Celtics. But Siegel reported that the team "has no indication" that it would trade White.

"Of all the Celtics players, they are likely to get the highest returns by trading White this summer," Siegel wrote. “White has become one of the best non-All-Star offensive and defensive players in the league after winning the 2024 Olympic gold medal and hitting a career high of 16.4 points per game.”

“White is already no stranger to the trade rumors that began to appear during the NBA playoffs,” Siegel continued. "Several teams in the league are eager to chase White in the deal negotiations, but league sources insist that the Celtics show no sign of a split with Derek White this summer." The Celtics view Derek White as a "key player"

There is no doubt that Jason Tatum's Achilles tendon injury has hindered the Celtics' potentially hopeful summer as they have to solve their financial problems. This has sparked many rumors about team trading players such as White, but Siegel said the Boston Celtics see White as a "key core player" tied with Tatum and star Jaylen Brown.

"The Boston Celtics see White as a key core player tied with Tatum and Brown," Siegel wrote. "That's why Stevens needs a pretty high offer to consider this idea. Never say forever, because after the Luca Doncic trade, everything is possible in the league, but White is not considered a player who will be forced to trade with a salary sell-off." How the Celtics will handle their roster remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that when they fully recover, they have a championship contender, but the future is not as bright as before. Brad Stevens has a lot of work to do.
